Nach dem 20. Juli werden meine sonnengebräunten Finger neue Blogposts schreiben. Bis dann - Τα λέμε!
After Juli 20th my suntanned fingers will write new blogposts. See you later - Τα λέμε!

I've hardly returned from London and off it goes again: to the mountains with some friends.
In the past years I somehow lost the lust for skiing. Instead I grew really fond of going sledging. Doing it the right way it's just as exhausting, dangerous, furious and painful the day after as skiing.
My best recommendation is the slopes between Preda and Bergün in the Canton of Graubünden. Coming from Chur you drive towards Engadin/ St. Moritz with the Ratian Railway. The valley is breathtakingly romantic with ice falls shimmering in light blue on both sides. The village of Bergün is simply adorable.
Herrlich!
One of the slopes is appr. four to six kilometers long (couldn't find any reliable source) and is basically the mountain pass between Preda and Bergün. They close it for cars during daytime from 10 am to 5 pm and again from 7 pm to 10 pm (for going sledging by night, yes!). This slope is perfect for families with some flat parts and just a few mean curves at the very beginning.
The other slope of Darlux requires some technique if you want to avoid getting carried over the rims of the many serpentines leading through the woods. Besides some buttocks of steel are indeed helpful. For some reasons the slope developes a nasty uneveness during the day. The lower part invites you for a schuss that runs through a tunnel and leading directly towards a little jump, and then: ouch! Splendid!
We found a lovely accomodation at the Pension Sonnenhof/ Preda. In this wooden house you get for some very fair fiftyfive Swiss Francs a neat room with a super clean shared bathroom on the same floor (incl. a view on the snowy landscape outside through little windows)and breakfast
There's only one place better in the area: the fabulous Kurhaus of Bergün. The only sad thing about this beautifully renovated Art Deco house is: it is always, always fully booked whenever I call!
When I visited London for the 1st time 21 years ago and the last time 19 years ago I totally refused to do sightseeing. That was for tourists – not for me! Consequently this time I saw for the very first time the Thames, Tower and Tower Bridge, Big Ben, House of Parliament, Covent Garden etc. I’m not going to write about this, because they are well known to everbody – normally.
In addition I made a little sentimental journey and visited the Textile Exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum (very good idea) and Camden Markets (very bad idea).
Currently the V&A showcases highlights from the Royal College of Art fashion MA graduates' final collections. The exhibited items are without exeption extremely inspiring – and you are allowed to take pictures!

Unbedingt meiden!
On the opposite the Camden Markets became very uninspiring. Total Thrash for Tourists. Avoid going there!
Portobello Market I liked better, though I found it a bit wishy-washy. It runs along Portobello Road, with shops on the left and right side of the street. We were a bit late and due to darkness and cold many marketers were already packing up stuff. So we concentrated on shops. On the upper part of the street towards Ladbroke Grove are mainly antiques. Moving towards Notting Hill you find vintage and design.
„Proud of our Provenance“ ist das Motto.
London Markets are huge, you can snoop around for hours. Only hunger, thirst and the need for a toilet may keep you from walking and walking and walking. In a tiny backyard we found Charlie’s Cafe at 59A Portobello Road. Their motto is „Proud of our Provenance“, so their aim is to buy local products. In the menu you’ll find every single product’s provenance described. Litteraly every single product: “this cuttlery was made in my father’s old factory. It doesn’t exist anymore for the production is closed and transferred to China. So please don’t nick it. Sausages and ham are from Peter’s Sillfield Farm in Cumbria, in the heart of Westmorland County, the Lake District by the way. Fruits and vegetables are from Portobello Market. The waiter seemed to come right out of bed though, but looked very cuddly with his hair all messed up.
The Spitalfields Market I liked best. Until a few years ago this used to be the local fruit and vegetable market. Meanwhile it was renovated and reconstructed and now offers space for shops and market stalls. On Thursdays sale antiques, on Fridays it’s open for fashion designers. Sunday is the best day with a mixed program. I went there last Sunday, the last day before going back home. Oh, I could’ve spent all day there – with an empty wallet though. That’s because I couldn’t resist buying the one (a skirt by Enienay – Reconstructed ready-to-wear and a brooch by clajs) or another (a coat by Love and Be Loved) unresistable item. Lost some pounds this way. Kind of a zone diet. When you’re in the area don’t miss strolling through the streets between Commercial Street and Brick Lane, it’s worthwhile. You’ll find some nice vintageshops and indian restaurants.
Grossartig! Unbedingt abseits stehen bleiben und beobachten.
This plain mant almost merging into the post does great art. Unnoticed by passers-by he stands without a move, touching somebodies hair here and than. Women scream, children start crying. Brilliant! Stopping and watching is a must.
